White House Alters Record of Press Briefing

The antics of Baghdad Bob Scott McClellan reach a new low.

During the October 31 press briefing, McClellan was asked a question about the CIA leak investigation. McClellan gave a response that seemed to paint Karl Rove and Scooter Libby in a bad light. The official White House transcript has the response as stating, well, the opposite of the actual response. The White House have also asked other publications to change their transcripts, but they have correctly refused.

The question from NBC’s David Gregory:
"Whether there’s a question of legality, we know for a fact that there was involvement. We know that Karl Rove, based on what he and his lawyer have said, did have a conversation about somebody who Patrick Fitzgerald said was a covert officer of the Central Intelligence Agency. We know that Scooter Libby also had conversations."

McClellan's response:
"That's accurate."

McClellan's response (according to the White House):
"I don’t think that’s accurate.”
