Trent Lott: "We have met the enemy, and it is us."

Be careful what you wish for...

The Republicans were almost actually happy when the existence of secret CIA prisons were leaked to the Washington Post last week. Why? Because they thought this was their opportunity to expose liberal hypocrisy- ie. Democrat made the Republicans look bad over the leaking of a CIA agent's identity by the Bush administration, so if a Democrats leaked info about CIA prisons overseas, they could expose them and have their own little scandal.

You see, the Republicans in Congress didn't care that the CIA was operating secret prisons out of former Soviet gulags; that sort of thing just doesn't bother them. They just thought they might be able to divert attention away from their own CIA leak scandal by starting another one. So Sen. Frist, Dennis Hastert, and others demanded an investigation into this leak. Some quick digging has already been done and it appears now that it's likely the CIA prison info was leaked by....

A Republican senator.

OOPS.

Sen. Frist won't be screaming too loud about that investigation anymore, methinks.

To quote Trent Lott who discussed this today:
"We can not remain silent. We have met the enemy, and it is us."
