Ralph Nader: Still An Egomaniac

Republicans, open up your checkbooks... your old friend Ralph is back.

[UPDATE: Let me clarify my egomanic comment... Nader used to a be a well-respected consumer advocate, but no longer. After all, what has he done to help solve the problems he cites in recent years? We never see or hear from him except in leap years. The man he helped defeat eight years ago-- Al Gore (who was totally the same as Bush, amiright!?)-- has been working to call for action on climate change and other progressive causes like the war and civil liberties. What's Nader done? Nothing, except show up every election to demand attention. It's all ego.]

You are another victim of media mind control. Ralph Nader could have preserved his ego, his friendships, and worldwide acclaim for all he has done for humanity already, but instead took the courageous move to do what NO ONE ELSE was doing in 2000 and 2004, blasting onto the national stage to challenge the two party corporate duopoly.
He has been campaigning against injustice non-stop, without a vacation or week-end off, pretty much his entire life up to this point. Just because your news channel doesn't cover his latest conference about the Federal Reserve's undemocratic workings, or his latest campaign against privatization of a public agency, or whatever, doesn't mean he has been hiding in a cave. In fact he has a web site which you could check if you are actually interested in his non-presidental-campagin activity. It's nader.org.

Second, Al Gore actually was pretty similar to Bush back in 2000. He was also interested in regime change in Iraq, he was also planning on implementing No Child Left Behind (it was originally drawn up by Sen. Kennedy IIRC), he was saying nothing about the environment, he was equally loved and paid for by the corporations, he made no challenge to the obviously stolen election... I could go on and on. And where is Gore now? Flying around the globe on his private jet, living in his energy sucking mansion, and his only activism is of the least controversial type. The little controversy over his anti-global-warming crusade is usually focused on his own energy usage, as most people do believe the environment should be protected. If anyone is boosting their ego, it is Gore.

Third, Nader's supporters are not Republicans. I did extensive petitioning for Nader this summer and most Republicans I encountered said they hated Nader. I tried, often without success, to convince them that if they hate the democrats it would be in their interest to get Nader on the ballot. The vast majority of signatures came from people who were genuinely disgusted and unrepresented by the Republicrats. Do you think most Buchanan supporters are Democrats?

Fourth, this year, just like 2000 and 2004, we are damn lucky to have Nader and McKinney running and bringing up the majoritarian issues that the two corporate candidates don't. If you are curious what those issues are, check here:http://www.votenader.org/issues/
