Help Us Obi-Wan Fitzgerald, You're Our Only Hope.

As if we needed any more proof, all signs point to Cheney in the Plame case...

From Newsweek -
The role of Vice President Dick Cheney in the criminal case stemming from the outing of White House critic Joseph Wilson's CIA wife is likely to get fresh attention as a result of newly disclosed notes showing that Cheney personally asked whether Wilson had been sent by his wife on a "junket" to Africa.

Cheney's notes, written on the margins of a July 6, 2003 New York Times op-ed column by former ambassador Joseph Wilson, were included as part of a filing Friday night by prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the perjury and obstruction case against ex-Cheney chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

The notes, Fitzgerald said in his filing, show that Cheney and Libby were "acutely focused" on the Wilson column and on rebutting his criticisms of the White House's handling of pre-Iraq war intelligence...

You can read the court filing from Fitzgerald- here.

It's been clear since late 2005 that Patrick Fitzgerald has been very interested in the Vice President's role in this leak. And with each new filing and revelation, it's clear he has a great deal of evidence to support such a line of inquiry. It's unclear specifically where this investigation is going to end up, but I'll bet some people in the White House are really regretting the decisions they made in the summer of 2003.

Andrew Sullivan looks at the implications of this news-
Isikoff's latest report shows how close Patrick Fitzgerald is getting to the heart of the Plame outing. He seems to have nailed down Cheney's hand-written notes on Wilson's op-ed in the NYT - "Do we ordinarily send people out pro bono to work for us? Or did his wife send him on a junket?" - as well as hard evidence that Libby knew full well that Plame's identity was classified before he leaked it. Who knows what he's got on Rove?

Also, Jane at Firedoglake perfectly sums up why this is so significant-
The fact that Cheney’s own handwriting is all over a copy of Joe Wilson’s NYT op ed is exceptionally damning. It includes the statement "Do we ordinarily send people out pro bono to work for us? Or did his wife send him on a junket?" But Cheney already knew back in June that the CIA was saying that Wilson’s wife may have had a role in sending him, it wasn’t news to him when this article came out on July 6. These were marching orders, not a question.

That's probably what the special prosecutor wants to find out too.
