Bush Declares: We Do "Not" Torture [*wink*]

President Bush, unaware of mortal concepts such as irony or hypocrisy, declared today that "We do not torture"... in a speech in which he was lobbying against the McCain amendment which seeks to outlaw torture.

Mr. President, you realize of course you're not helping here.

In doing this, the President has once again solidified the motto of the current Republican party: 'Committed To Saying One Thing And Doing The Other'. Party of smaller government... bloating the federal bureacracy and running up record deficits? Check. Party of moral values... running around like a bunch of criminals? Check. Party of national security... outing CIA agents and fighting for torture? CHECK!! God bless America!

Here's the article (I added the bold where necessary):
Bush Declares: 'We Do Not Torture'

President Bush vigorously defended U.S. interrogation practices* in the war on terror Monday and lobbied against a congressional drive to outlaw torture**.

"There's an enemy that lurks and plots and plans and wants to hurt America again," Bush said. "So you bet we will aggressively pursue them but we will do so under the law***."

He declared, "We do not torture****."

Notes:
*- Read: TORTURE
**- You know, the Congressional amendment overwhelmingly passed by all but 9 Senators.
***- The law, as interpreted by Alberto Gonzales and the Bush administration.
****- We do.
